Scott Crabbe – Dundee United
Scott Crabbe left Tynecastle Boys Club to join Hearts in 1986 and made his league debut against Clydebank in January 1987. He established himself at Tynecastle, earned selection for the Scotland under‑21 team and was voted SPFA Young Player of the Year in 1990.
Linked with a move to Dundee United in the summer of 1991, he completed a transfer in September 1992 in an exchange that included Allan Preston and a reported £215,000. Crabbe made his United debut in October 1992 in a 1–0 win against Aberdeen at Pittodrie and became a regular in the side for the remainder of that season.
He scored the goal that took United’s UEFA Cup tie against Brondby into extra time and opened United’s 1994 Scottish Cup campaign with the first goal in a third round win at Arbroath.
In the replay at Fir Park against Motherwell he sustained a broken leg that sidelined him for almost a year. He began to re‑establish himself as United struggled and were relegated, and another injury in September 1995 effectively ended his time at Tannadice.
Crabbe returned in the reserves a year later but moved to Falkirk in January 1997 for a nominal fee to secure first team football. He collected a Scottish Cup runners‑up medal with Falkirk in 1997.
He signed for Livingston in July 2000 and helped the club win promotion to the Premier League in 2001. He had loan spells at Cowdenbeath and Raith Rovers before transferring to Ayr United in November 2001. Later stages of his career included spells with Alloa Athletic, Albion Rovers, Raith Rovers and East Fife, where he brought his playing career to a close in June 2007.
Scott Crabbe’s career is defined by early promise, serious injury and a long service across Scottish football.
